Mandell Menkes Lawyers Speak At Book Publishing Seminar

July 19, 2007 – Today, two Mandell Menkes lawyers spoke to nearly 100 lawyers, publishers, authors, and others involved in the publishing industry at a seminar entitled “Publishing Law and Contracts,” sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association.
Steve Baron led off the three-person panel by outlining the various tort claims that publishers and authors commonly face, including defamation, privacy, publicity, and related actions, as well as providing tips on minimizing the risks of such claims. Kristin Lingren finished the afternoon by discussing drafting considerations in book publishing contracts, including provisions for exploiting subsidiary rights, provisions relating to permissions, obligations, and liabilities concerning third party content, and copyright enforcement provisions.
